Ten Reasons Veterinary Practices do not Achieve Their Financial Potential and the Steps You Can Take to Enhance Your Practice’s Financial Success

This all-day session will focus on the top ten reasons why veterinary practices fall short of their potential. Four key result areas will guide discussion of several topics including:

Client Wellness
o Managing appointment capacity to minimize white space
o Eliminating price sensitivity among DVM and non-DVM staff members
o Scheduling follow-up patient care

Course Description - Sunday, June 7, 2008 (8:00am - 5:00pm):

The Diagnosis and Treatment of Common Personal Financial Planning Ailments

Time: 8:00am – 12:00pm
This session will study the relationship between a veterinarian’s personal productivity and his or her ability to achieve lifetime financial goals (retirement, practice start-up, practice expansion, college education funding, vacation home, etc.). Participants will learn how to recognize gaps in their current financial plan (or lack of plan) and determine the steps necessary to achieve their financial goals. The seminar will focus on fundamental financial planning strategies such as: the importance of developing a written financial plan; the components of a Lifetime Financial Plan;the lessons learned by creating a Lifetime Financial Plan; the results achieved by developing a Lifetime Financial Plan; Identifying financial goals and objective; Implementing a structured cash flow management program (budget); Utilization of qualified and non-qualified retirement plans; Utilization of risk management techniques to protect earned income (insurance); Funding of nursing home care; Implementation of appropriate estate planning strategies. Participants will also learn the basics of Securities Investing and strategies they can use to keep their investments safe in a volatile market.

Veterinary Practice Valuation – Making (Dollars and) Sense of your Practice’s Value

Time: 1:00pm – 3:00pm
This session will focus on key aspects of Veterinary Practice Valuation such as the primary factors that affect practice value, the process by which value is determined and how to evaluate whether or not the value determined is a valid representation of your practice. Common practice valuation errors will be identified and discussed. Participants will learn the benefits and uses of a well constructed practice valuation report as well as gain an understanding of the various valuation methods (market, asset, and income) and the twelve risk factors that must be identified in a veterinary practice in order to develop a comprehensive valuation report. Attendees will leave the session understanding key strategies for immediately increasing practice value and how to best implement those strategies.<br>

The Diagnostic Intensity Challenge – Practicing Quality, Consistent, Cutting Edge Veterinary Medicine 100% of the Time

Time: 3:15pm – 5:00pm
This session will focus on the concept of “Diagnostic Intensity” in veterinary medicine. Discussion will focus on raising the level of knowledge, and skills utilized by veterinary team members in the practice setting. Concepts such as team based healthcare, standards of care and DVM productivity will be explored in the context of elevating the profession to a higher standard. This session also includes case studies aimed at making these concepts into tangible and realistic tools that you can begin implementing in your practice right away.
