FOUNDATION

Extending Our Abilities to Serve You...

The Texas Veterinary Medical Foundation was established in 1978 as a charitable and philanthropic organization. The Foundation is dedicated to promoting the health and well being of animals through owner education programs, veterinary student scholarships and emergency funds, and continuing education programs, which is described in the Foundation's Mission Statement. The Foundation receives tax-deductible gifts from the public, veterinarians, and pharmaceutical and supply industries. No contributions are used for operating expenses. It has a fifteen-member board of trustees.

The TVM Foundation has been involved in many successful projects. In 1984, it created the Texas Animal Hall of Fame, a successful and much-imitated program that honors remarkable animals and puts Texas veterinarians in a positive media spotlight. In 1991, it commissioned A Special Kind of Doctor, a book documenting the history of veterinary medicine in Texas. The Foundation has greatly extended the outreach of TVMA and provides many public relations opportunities for the association.

Memorial Gift Program:
In 1980, the Foundation began the Memorial Gift Program, which has proven to be the lifeblood of TVMF. Today, the Memorial Gift Program raises close to $100,000 annually while providing a powerful practice-building service for participating veterinarians.

Woofstock:
Groovin' May 2, 2009 Woofstock at Waterloo is a dog-friendly festival connecting Austin-area pet owners and their furry friends with the veterinary professionals who care for them. The day-long celebration of peace and pups honors the companionship of our Central Texas community and the animals we love. Woofstock at Waterloo is a free public event. Mark Francis Museum of Veterinary History:
In 2003-2004, TVMF raised money to fund the creation of the Mark Francis Museum of Veterinary History, which is housed in the rotunda of the TVMA building in Austin. An interpretive exhibit describing the history of veterinary medicine in Texas, the museum provides an attractive and informative experience for visitors and serves as a point of pride for all veterinarians.
