Foal Care E-mail Reminder Service Offers Personalized Healthcare Reminders and Tips for Mares and Foals
MILLSBORO, Del.—Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health, announces its Foal Care Healthcare E-mail Reminder Service. The program sends out customized e-mail messages that offer important tips and remind horse owners of crucial points in the mare’s breeding and foaling cycle, as well as in the first year of the foal’s life. Horse owners can enroll in the free program at www.foalcare.com.
What to Expect When Your Mare is Expecting
By going to www.foalcare.com and providing one or two key dates, such as the breeding or foaling date, horse owners automatically will receive e-mails alerting them to important dates and events throughout the pregnancy of their mare, during foaling and the foal’s first year of life, including breeding management tips and vaccination and deworming reminders.
“The e-mail reminder service provides a convenient source of information on key healthcare milestones and reinforces the importance of early and continuous veterinarian involvement in the foaling process,” says Wendy Vaala, V.M.D., Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health Equine Technical Services Specialist. “The customized e-mails contain information based on the data horse owners submit that is conveniently delivered electronically and accessible anytime.”
The e-mail reminders will include everything from tips on preparing the mare for breeding and managing the pregnant mare, recognizing the signs of delivery and healthy foaling. The helpful hints then transition to the newborn foal, sending out customized reminders on first vaccinations, deworming and when to begin the gradual transition from an all-milk diet to solid feed.
“Using the expert direction of a veterinarian, the program is designed to take a horse owner through the entire foaling process, beginning with the health of the mare and continuing through the first year of the foal’s life,” says Vaala.
The Intervet Foal Care program includes information to track growth and medical history, as well as other healthcare information on evaluating, monitoring, feeding, vaccinating and deworming the foal.
The www.foalcare.com Web site provides interactive tools and downloadable charts that help track the growth and health of foals, and it serves as the starting point to register for the new e-mail reminder service.
“Raising a foal can be a lot of work, but keeping it healthy doesn’t have to be,” says Vaala. “Horse owners have a lot on their plates; the Foal Care E-mail Reminder Service is there – along with your veterinarian – to help manage the healthcare process in a convenient and understandable way.”
