For Immediate Release
AUSTIN—The Texas Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA) has honored Wharton Veterinary Clinic as one of five recipients of the 2010 Heritage Practice Award.
In 1946 Dr. John “Jake” C. Willis established this animal hospital after the purchase and relocation of a post-World War II U.S. Army barrack and government building.
The practice, which has served the Wharton community for 64 years, originally specialized in large animals but today extends to small ones as well. Since its creation, three other veterinarians have owned the practice: Victor H. “Vic” Driscoll, DVM, Frank E. Mann, Jr., DVM, the 1980 president of TVMA; and current practice owner Carlos E. Bonnot, DVM, a 1976 graduate of Texas A&M University.
Wharton Veterinary Clinic was recognized on March 6, 2010, at the TVMA Annual Conference along with four other Heritage Practice Award winners: Glenwood Animal Hospital in Tyler, Park Cities Animal Hospital in University Park, Pasadena Veterinary Hospital in Pasadena, and the Bellville Veterinary Clinic in Bellville. A historical look at Wharton Veterinary Clinic was featured in the June 2010 issue of the Texas Veterinarian.
The Heritage Award program recognizes veterinary clinics in Texas that have been in continuous operation for 50 years or more. The daily practice of veterinary medicine is not an easy endeavor; therefore, a business with 50 years or more of sustainable medical contributions to the public and their animals is indeed noteworthy.
