TVMA Hosts Annual Conference This Weekend

Austin—The Texas Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA) will host its 2012 Annual Conference this weekend, February 3–5, in College Station. Events will be held at the Hilton College Station and Texas A&M University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

Veterinarians, clinic owners, practice managers, veterinary technicians and veterinary students from throughout Texas and the nation will meet to honor TVMA’s 2012 Practitioners of the Year, name Heritage Practices (those practices that have been in business for 50 years or more), install the new TVMA president and other officers and hold some great continuing education programs, where veterinarians can brush-up on advances in the field.

Speakers from Texas and around the country will offer presentations on a wide array of topics. Some highlights from the schedule include Common Clinical Questions in Companion Animal Anesthesia, Fundamentals of Personal Financial Planning, Investment Philosophy and Net Worth Diversity and Tailgate Epidemiology.

There will also be some exciting social events at the conference including The Future of Social Media – Small Business Makes the Leap presented by David J. Neff, the TVMA Auxiliary Chili Cook-Off Championship and TVMA and VBMA Student-Practitioner Social.

At the student-practitioner social, veterinary students looking for work and practitioners interested in hiring are invited to mingle during a luncheon. They can visit with others in the field regarding the possibility of a summer position, internship or externship.

The Texas Veterinary Medical Foundation (TVMF) will also host the 4th Annual Clay Shoot Friday afternoon, Feb. 3. Teams are invited to compete at the Tonkaway Ranch, one of the area’s most challenging 10-station sporting clays walk-through courses.

Saturday evening the new TVMA President, Dr. Orlando Garza, Jr., and his wife, Rosemary, will host the President’s “End Zone” Celebration for their colleagues and friends in congruence with the TVMF Live and Silent Auctions. All proceeds raised from the auctions will go to TVMF. The “End Zone” Celebration will feature the quarterback challenge, a video production area by Dancing Boogie Heads, and TVMA’s official “Man Cave,” a place to watch great moments in Super Bowl and Aggie football history.

Reveille, Aggie football coaches, players and yell leaders will be in attendance for a “Meet and Greet” photo opportunity.
